GLTI.CH KARAOKE will be hosting this live karaoke event in conjunction with the citizens of Kumamoto City, Japan. All proceeds raised at Glitch Karaoke will go to The Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund.

Defy human spacetime by warbling Elvis, the Spice Girls, and Beat Crusaders with friends in London and Kumamoto at the Meanwhile Space (Whitechapel) at the End of the Universe with the power of Skype, hand-me-down computers, and mutual love of amateur live singing.

This means I might need a skype (or equivalent) plugin that plays the music & lyrics, or find some karaoke software with the ability to display lyrics over a transparent background. (That is, to have windowless karaoke display, and run the webcam feed behind it. ) All the software (I can find) to play .CDG (karaoke lyric standard) files forces them to be played with an image background, or over a video file. Presidents Birds and Even

At the conception of this project Kaye and Pester created a system of exchange and translation, developing shared concerns for chance operations, periphery speech sounds and the thrill of live performance. By trading sound, text and image material, they allowed the piece to workshop itself out of their (re)interpretation and (mis)translation. Kaye and Pester have engendered not only a musical score, but a hypertextual network of graphic notation, sound poetics and a prolific collaborative partnership.

The piece works as a triptych, with each instant both setting Pester’s text and also conceptually representing each visual poem. The piece is also interspersed with rhythmic interludes.
